Bloggy News: A New Look, 200 Followers, and a Giveaway!

Hello everyone! I have a few exciting announcements to make about Books Speak Volumes today!

First of all, the blog has a shiny, brand new header image! A huge thank you to my wonderful boyfriend Tom for designing it. Aside from being incredibly handsome, sweet, and funny, he also happens to be a talented graphic and web designer! You can see his other awesome designs on Dribbble!

I Love You gif

Thanks lemon pie, you’re the best!

Second, I am thrilled that this blog has gained its 200th follower! It feels like such a huge landmark for me! Thank you to everyone who follows, reads, likes, and comments. I’ve been blogging for a little over a year, and the thing that has surprised me the most is the strong sense of community among book bloggers. I’ve received so much support, such as encouragement to continue reading a difficult book (and advice on how to get through it more easily), and I have loved getting to know many of you through commenting exchanges, read-alongs, and emails. You are constantly teaching me new things and exposing me to new ideas, books, and world views. You make blogging so much fun. Thank you!

Thank You For Following gif

To celebrate both of these developments, I’ve decided to host a giveaway! Here’s the deal:

One lucky winner will receive a copy of a book I have reviewed here on Books Speak Volumes — your choice! (See my Review Index for the list of titles). However, due to being an underemployed 23-year-old, I’m limiting this giveaway to books currently released in paperback. But on the plus side, this giveaway is open to anyone who lives in a country that The Book Depository ships to! (See the list here.)

To enter, leave a comment below telling me which book you would like to receive if you win (1 point). Make sure to include your email so I can contact you! You can also earn up to four additional points by:

  1. Following my blog via WordPress or e-mail. If you already follow, you will receive this point. If you’re new to the site, check out a few posts to make sure the style/content suits you before following (1 point).
  2. Following me on Twitter @Leah_BSV (1 point).
  3. Sharing a link to this post on Twitter. If you do this, please include my Twitter handle (@Leah_BSV) and/or put a link to your tweet in the comments (1 point).
  4. Liking the Books Speak Volumes Facebook fan page (1 point).

Please note which of these points you should earn in your comment. Each point equates to one entry. I will use a numbered Excel spreadsheet and Random.org to choose a winner.

This giveaway will be open until 12 p.m. EST April 30, and I will contact the winner later that day. If you win, you have one week to respond with your mailing address, or I will choose a new winner.

May the odds be ever in your favor gif

Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor!

P.S., Thank you to Elena of Books and Reviews, one of my favorite bloggers, whose own 200th follower giveaway inspired this one. She’s super smart and writes thoughtful, engaging reviews of great books. You should check out her blog — NOW!

  1. Congratulations!

I’ve been follower for a while. I’m following thru e-mail. And I’m also your Twitter follower (@Rivorniel).

And if you really want to give away a nice book, my pick would be Ann Patchett’s “State of Wonder”, definitely 🙂

  2. It looks fantastic! Especially the cartoon you 🙂 And congrats on reaching 200 followers! That’s awesome!

And of course I want to enter the giveaway! I would love to win (one of my favorites) “The Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood. I should get 3 extra entries too for (1) following you on FB (2) following you on Twitter and (3) my tweet.

  3. First, that banner is ADORABLE. I’ve always loved cartoon selves! I want to enter your giveaway! I liked you on faaaaaaacebook, I already follow your bloggity blog on wordpress, we’re totes tweeps already, and I’m going to tweet this bad boy as soon as I finish this comment. I’ve heard things that are delicious about The Age of Miracles and also things that are less than tasty, so I’m curious. Also, it seems I’ve been taken mentally captive by a tween. Forgive the ridiculousness of my internet lingo. I swear I know how to spell and stuff.

    • Thanks! I’m pretty happy with it! On my end, The Age of Miracles was on of the tastiest things I devoured last year, so good choice! Girl, you know I’m down wit da lingoz. (Because in my world gangsters, not tweens, rule the internet?)

  4. I love the look of your blog. I’m a new follower (email) but still, kudos to the new design! I went ahead and followed u on twitter (@Diamondcronen) & liked your FB! (Diamondnazaneen)

I’m a fellow book blogger, so I know how exciting it is to reach 200 followers and have your blog looking so polished and professionaL! 😀 so cool. I hope to reach 200 some day. Here’s my book blog, if u wanna stop by and say hi. I’m a big fan of classics too ^_^

Oh, I’d love a copy of On the Road, as I always give my copies away and I need one to stay on my bookshelf! Kerouac is one of my favorite authors.

    Thanks!

    • Hello Dee, thanks for following!

On the Road is a good one! Haha I suppose it’s fitting that a book about being always on the move keeps wandering off your bookshelf and onto others?

  5. Congratulations! What a pity that I’m not on twitter, nor on wordpress and that I never follow blogs via e-mail. I can only like your fanpage… poor chances to win the giveaway (Cloud Atlas by David Mitchel has caught my eye)! However, your blog is great.

  6. The blog looks fantastic. Congratulations on 200 followers! I would love to enter your excellent giveaway, but…I have too many books already. Stop being an enabler! Hahaha!

    • Swamplandia is wonderful!

Les Mis and I have a love/hate thing going on. We’re taking a break right now, but I’m confident we’ll get back together in a few weeks.

      • Yeah you can get bogged down with les Mis, but its so worth it. Take it slow. I renewed it from the library so many times that I had to borrow a different edition after like 9 weeks 🙂

  7. Leah,

Congratulations!! I love the new look, fab for getting 200 followers!!!

I follow your blog on both WP AND Bloglovin!

I also follow you on Twitter and I’m going to share this post right now (of course!)

I like you on FB as both Love at First Book & my personal page. (b/c you’re awesome)

And if I won, I’d let you pick the book for me. I like your book choices, so I’m sure we could find one that you think I’d enjoy!

  8. Congrats!!
I love the new header image as well.

I’m already a wordpress follower, twitter follower and facebook page follower 🙂
PS – Im liking your page with my page (The Book Musings)
